Front drive shaft

Post by CrunchBite » May 20th, 2016, 9:22 am

So my front drive shaft is toast at both the joints. So the question is now what?

I guess the options are

1. Rebuild with stock stuff
2. Rebuild with Teraflex high angle cv (I have a 4.5" lift and the angle on the stock one was pretty high)
3. Take it to Driveline Specialties and get Corey to rebuild it
4. Aftermarket shaft.

Now I kinda like option 2 as its in the middle pricewise but is also an upgrade that should hopefully be a bit more durable.

Does anyone have any other options? or preferred brands?

Thanks!

Do you have the OEM one in there right now?

Aftermarket for sure. With a 4" lift or more. It's a bad angle. Having a CV Joint in there would help.

I would go with an aftermarket one. Whether it be from Pats, driveline spec, RE, etc...

I would avoid the Teraflex high angle option as you still have the crappy splines on the OEM shaft and the front ujoint.

If you're tight on cash then simply toss in a used front off someone. At 4.5" of lift I got about 2-6 months out of each OEM one when I kept putting it off. Mind you it was mostly wheeling only as its not my DD so you would probably get a bit more lift if you're not wheeling as much and just on pavement. You can usually find someone selling them for $50 or less and relatively new. Use the time/savings to get a proper after market one.

If you need something asap I have my old stock one still. It started to leak, but it still works. You're welcome to it for free if you like.

I'll take you up on that if you're free later in the weekend/week. I'm going mall crawling camping tonight.

Something to hold me over while I shop after market shafts.

Whenever man. I can bring it into Calgary depending on the time, or come up to Airdrie. No big deal.

Thanks! I'll pm you later in the weekend.

So does anyone have a recommendation on a preferred after market shaft? Anything to avoid?
